Corona boosts interest in Smart Home technology: how to take advantage of this trend?

Since the outbreak of the corona crisis, more than half of the population have bought a smart device. This is revealed in a large-scale survey by AXA Partners among 2,000 respondents in the United Kingdom. Just under half (49%) are now open to installing smart home technology. This shift in mindset is creating opportunities for companies to expand their traditional offering with future-proof services that provide protection and living comfort for their customers.

Voice-activated devices are the most popular

After the smart TV, voice-controlled applications are by far the most popular. 13% of the respondents have brought one into their home since the lockdown. Other connected devices that have won over consumers: the smart doorbell and smart lighting (both 8%), the smart refrigerator (5%), thermostat (5%) and window decoration (3%).

Security, peace of mind and comfort

Before the corona pandemic, household appliances were mainly expected to be useful. However, in spending more time at home, people have come to value their total living experience more. Applications that make everyday life safer, easier and more comfortable are growing increasingly important.

In the coming year we expect that the value of connectivity in the home will continue to increase and that its convenience and possibilities will be further discovered and appreciated. Owners of second homes and vacation homes, for example, are increasingly recognising the benefits of security technology such as smart doorbells and surveillance cameras to keep an eye on things remotely.

How to make the living experience in Smart Homes even more pleasant for customers?

Covid-19 has accelerated the transition to Smart Home technology. With a clever approach, companies can catch this wave and offer their customers innovative solutions that provide even more household comfort and security. Think of professional help for the installation of the smart appliances and quick help in the event of a malfunction, but also imagine, for example, an extension of the shop warranty extension of the shop warranty on household appliances and smart devices. Or an online privacy packagewith technical and legal assistance in the event that the technology is hacked and cyber criminals steal data or video footage.

Innovative Ideas to achieve strategic goals

The accelerated adoption of Smart Home technology represents an opportunity for companies to get more out of their existing customer portfolio and to gain new customers thanks to an innovative offer and an excellent customer experience.
